Without Care in America

Your Story.

The chart may say stable. That does not tell us whether you were prepared for visible spaces, whether anyone helped afterward, or whether you still feel able to smile. This page records what happened to the person attached to the pocket depths.

“Every morning when I open my eyes, the nightmare begins.”
Del Perio · Midwest · After periodontal surgery

Del has black triangles that became significantly larger after periodontal surgery. He was told only seconds before anesthesia that he would wake up with more space between his teeth, without being shown what that change could look like. Since then, he has encountered everything from dismissal of the visible loss to offices saying they do not make gingival masks or requiring paid evaluations without confirming a pathway. His periodontal condition is stable, and he wants to be evaluated for a removable gingival mask. After more than 15 years of searching, he still has not found a U.S. office prepared to evaluate, coordinate fabrication, deliver, and adjust one.
